Dell Streak 7 Unveiled: Tegra 2 Powered On T-Mobile’s HSPA+ Network
Dell has officially unveiled its newest tablet device, the Dell Streak 7 , a 7-inch inch Android powered tablet that is the company’s first 4G tablet that will run on T-Mobile’s 4G (HSPA+) networks.
The announcement makes the rumours we reported on official, succeeding Dell’s 5-inch Streak device.
Launching in the USA in “the coming weeks”, the Streak 7 is powered by Nvidia’s dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, running Android 2.2 (Froyo), shipping with a toughened WVGA Gorilla Glass screen, Bluetooth 2.1, with the ability to store 16GB of data on its internal memory and support for an additional 32GB.
The mobile operator announced it had upgraded its HSPA+ network to deliver 42 Mbps data transfer bandwidth, allowing users to download music and films on their Streak 7 as well as applications available on the Android Market in super-quick time.
It’s only a matter of time until Dell’s new tablet drops, expect more information as it becomes available.
Motorola Droid 2 Global finally gets official, Droid X Global rumor officially starts brewing
Gather round, world travelers of Verizon. Big Red has finally unleashed the worst kept secret in smartphones upon you. That’s right, the Motorola Droid 2 Global has finally become official.
Oddly enough and quite possibly a sign of the times, they made the announcement on Facebook which you can view with your own eyes here . Here’s Verizon’s message to the world:
So, standard $199.99 for a two year contract. Nothing that we didn’t know already, so let’s move onto something we know nothing about, sound good?
A tweet from notorious Verizon tweeter @black_man_x indicates that Motorola might have something else of the Global flavor brewing. The tweet doesn’t reveal much but says:
@Justinaadu scrapped for the moment. There maybe a “world” edition coming though.. DX global:::…. hmmm
His response was to a question about the Droid X SE edition that swirled around in rumor circles awhile back. While the Droid X Global sounds like a neat idea, it would join a crowded field which includes the Droid 2 Global and the Motorola Droid Pro. However, if it had some other capabilities to distinguish itself, say LTE , then it certainly would be something to celebrate.
For now though, the only thing we know for sure is that the Droid 2 is finally a go.
Motorola XOOM will receive Flash update “a few weeks” after launch
Suggestions that there could be a lengthy wait for Motorola XOOM owners to get Adobe’s Flash 10.2 on their tablets have been calmed after the software company announced it would make it available for download “within a few weeks of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) devices becoming available”.
Adobe notes in a blog post that Flash Player 10.2 will be pre-installed on some tablets – we assume any tablet that runs anything but Honeycomb will fall into this category – with optimisation for Honeycomb accounting for the delay on tablets including the Motorola XOOM.
Adobe sees its Flash Player software running on as many as 132 million devices by the end of 2011, supporting over 50 tablets that will ship over the course of the year. As Android continues to make inroads into Symbian’s worldwide smartphone market share and is chosen by manufacturers to power their new tablet devices, Adobe could be right on the money with its prediction.
If you are looking to get a XOOM when they launch, you may have to wait until you can enjoy the full Flash experience. Adobe’s tenative timeframe of “a few weeks” is pretty broad, meaning you could be in for a longer wait than you initially thought.
