Nerd Valentine: Great Valentines Gifts for the Geek you Love
It’s February and we all know what that means, on the 14th you’re either going to be a smug git with flowers in your hands or looking at the floor to avoid all the smug people. It’s unavoidable, hearts and roses everywhere. But being loved-up has its down sides too (yes it does). The site of the world turning pink causes a surge of panic to rush through everyone. The ritual gift giving can be a mind field for women (yes boys, we have it just as tough), I mean what do you get a bloke other then Aftershave and a Watch?
I was relieved to discover a tumblr blog Nerd Valentine , a perfect place to find gifts for the Geek in your life, boy or girl. Created by Amrit Richmond , a community developer from New York, beautifully put together and very simple to use. Filter gifts by gender, browse the great collection and buy. Sadly there are more gifts for him then her. However if you can’t find the perfect Geek gift on Nerd Valentine, Try here .
Now all that’s left to do is to order in time for Valentines Day, 7 days left folks for the dreaded, I mean wonderful day.
Grab your Swackett: A delightfully easy, fun weather app for your mac
What is the main reason you ask yourself what is the weather today? Is it because you want to know about the; humidity, pressure, dew point, wind chill and the chance of precipitation? Alternatively, like me, do you just want to know how many layers of clothes you will need to put on?
Swackett, the slang term for sweater, jacket or coat is a new mac app (ipad and iphone to launch soon) that makes understanding that makes understanding the weather simple. It is made by AGLogic a special subsidiary of AGI that focuses on intelligent software design.
Swackett is targeted at children, the elderly and the lazy (people like me). The weather is forecasted by what the cartoon figures are wearing (with labels). The cartoon people are lovingly referred to as ‘peeps’. The peeps come with different styles of clothing. There are fun editions of peeps, like the British Invasion Edition (think Beetles clothing) and the 1950’s edition (think Elvis and John Wayne style clothing). There are also hints on the website the peeps will be available in the awesome Star Trek edition (think Fatema’s eyes watering with anticipation).
A step up from Umbrella Today , Swackett is a beautifully designed application, simple to use, easy to understand and a fun little time saver.
The Swackett app is available for free download on the Mac App Store .
Nike+ FuelBands arrive in two new colors at more Nike stores across the US, UK and Canada from October 31
Nike is set to boost the availability and expand its range of Nike+ FuelBand fitness trackers, launching ‘White ICE’ and ‘Black ICE’ color variants in an wider number of locations in the US, UK and Canada from October 31.
Already selling the ‘Black Steel’ and original ‘ICE’ FuelBands in select locations (and online) in the US and UK since its launch in February 2012, Nike has decided to add Canada to the list and will now sell the device in a increased number of its Nike stores and nikestoreom website in the three countries.
TNW went hands-on with the FuelBand in March , putting the wristband through its paces to see how well the accessory tracked movement and whether Nike’s NikeFuel metric helped users gain more from their workouts.
However, since then, Nike has been pushing ahead with development of its mobile apps , adding support for multiple bands and improved rewards for people who beat their personal bests. The app now supports Apple’s new iPhone 5 handset, as well as the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 and 3rd-generation iPod touch devices (and up).
Currently, there isn’t an app available for Android devices.
While Nike might be the big player in town, smaller companies like Fitbit and now Lark are enjoying demand from consumers looking to get more from their daily fitness routines. With two new colors and more availability, Nike will look to solidify its position.
If you had your heart set on getting a FuelBand but found it difficult to order one, that may change from October 31 with Nike’s improved distribution. That’s if you live in the US, UK or Canada, of course.
