The Square Pouch will keep your Square dongle stylish and protected
If you’re one of the many carrying around a Square device to process payments or get money back from your friends after a night out at the bar, you may be interested in The Square Pouch .
Jack Dorsey, CEO and founder of Square, tweeted out the link to the Square Pouch last night.
While endorsed by Dorsey, the Square Pouch doesn’t seem to be created by anyone at the company Square.
After clicking through, the site explains exactly why you should both keep your Square safe and make it look pretty with its pouch:
The company has even posted a video about how to use its Square Pouch:
Apple products are notorious for making people obsessed with accessories such as iPhone cases and iPad stands, so it’s only fitting that Square would get the same treatment. The Square Pouch starts at $7.99, and is available in black, white, red, pink, and blue.
How many devices in the Apple Store are under $10 and do so much? Not many. You might as well protect your Square in style.
Acer to unveil 10-inch Windows 7 and 7-inch Android 2.2 tablets today?
According to Digitimes , Acer is expected to unveil two new tablets at a press conference held in New York, making official a 10-inch Intel-powered Windows 7 model and a 7-inch Android 2.2 (Froyo), directly competing with Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab and trying to capture a share of the market from Apple.
It is thought that Acer has battled internal pressures in regards to its Android tablet devices – the company deciding whether it should delay the launch of its device to wait for the release of a more tablet-friendly Android firmware in Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) or push its device into the market to provide competition to Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab and Toshiba’s Folio 100.
Therein lies the dilemma. Tablet manufacturers are so worried about missing out on the upcoming festive sales period they are rushing out tablets even though Google itself has already confirmed that existing Android firmwares do not play well with devices that have larger screens.
By holding its press conference in New York, Acer is signalling its intention to take the fight to Apple in a country where its iPad enjoys a huge market share.
By rushing its product off the production-line, its highly likely that Acer could be crippling its future success in the tablet market. If Acer was to wait for the release of a more tablet-friendly Android OS, it could concentrate on incorporating industry-leading features, instead of releasing a “me-too” tablet that is purely aimed at capturing consumers cash instead of hearts.
Stay tuned, we will update you as soon as Acer releases any new information.
A love letter to my entrancing Nintendo Switch
I wish I was a gamer, but that’s just not how it is.
I couldn’t name the latest and most anticipated video games, I thought COD (Call of Duty) was a fishing game for an embarrassing amount of time, and, when playing Grand Theft Auto, I work as a legitimate taxi driver and don’t kill anyone.
But there’s one gaming thing I’m absolutely sure of: the Nintendo Wii was way ahead of its time. All the way back in 2006, Nintendo was one of the first companies to make video games more interesting to people of all types — and not just boys.
As a kid, I’d spend endless hours dominating the family TV, busting out Wii Sports , Animal Crossing , WiiFit , and, of course, the timeless Mario Kart . But for whatever reason — maybe the lack of third-party games or industry competition — the Wii lived a short but sweet life in my home. And I’ve missed it ever since.
However, this all changed when I got the Nintendo Switch. The lovely, glorious Nintendo Switch.
In my time, I’ve dabbled in the odd PS4 game, but it usually doesn’t last much longer than 20 minutes. But now, most of my evenings are spent glued to my TV playing on the Switch. It brings back so much nostalgia as I aggressively compete with others online on Mario Kart and incorrectly answer basic maths questions on Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training .
While I’m sure gaming hasn’t just got ‘fun again’ because of the Switch, I was never interested in other mainstream consoles — maybe because it was crowded with too many boys, guns, and violence. The Switch feels accessible; there are games for everyone.
But, there’s a downside, and I think this talks for the whole gaming industry: it’s expensive.
While the console isn’t horrendously priced itself ( you can grab it for $327 ), I spat out my tea when I paid $50 for Mario Kart. But whatever. It’s worth it.
While I’ve mentioned how much I love Mario Kart, there’s another game that I can’t not mention — and that’s the Untitled Goose Game. As beautifully described by TNW’s very own Callum Booth, it’s a game where you can ‘ unleash your inner asshole .’
The concept is simple. You play as a goose (who can honk, pick things up, run, swim, and waggle its wings) who has a list of nefarious tasks to achieve. This includes things like getting a gardener wet, making an appearance on TV, and stealing a fancy red bow by imitating a fake goose.
It was genuinely therapeutic to piss off a gardener and scare a little boy, so much so I quickly completed the game and felt an inner-feeling of emptiness. It was magnificent.
I’ll sign off with this thought: Generally, I’m always trying to reduce my screen time, but the Nintendo Switch is the exception. This screen, I want to spend more time on.
