Hanako is one of the Seven Mysteries and has been the subject of many fan art, but how much do you know about him? Here are ten facts you didn't know about Hanako from Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. Be careful of spoilers as you read ahead in this article.

  10 He Loves Donuts

While someone's likes and dislikes are usually one of the first things you ask someone when you are trying to become closer, this fact was withheld from readers until a few chapters passed.

It turned out that Hanako's favorite snacks are donuts, with homemade ones being his favorite. When Nene and Kou discovered this fact, they both made an effort to make him donuts.

  9 He Likes Playing Hanafuda

The Mokke have been around within the series since the beginning, acting as a motif as they can be seen in the background frequently. They appear to be spirits that are pink and look like rabbits who speak in a high-pitched tone.

Sometimes you can see Hanako playing hanafuda, a playing card game with flowers, with the Mokke to pass the time inside the bathroom. The thing Hanako is most worried about how he isn't able to beat the Mokke at hanafuda.

8 He Likes A Variety Of Animals

He does not appear like this, but it turns out that Hanako is quite the animal lover. His favorite animals are cats, dogs, and rabbits. Because of the Mokke appearing like rabbits to him, that may be why he is seen around them most of the time, as well as how he plays hanafuda with them.

You can see him interacting with animals whenever he goes outside as well, although he cannot leave the school grounds, so he is limited to the animals around Kamome Academy.

7 He Is Technically The Boss Of All Mysteries

There are a total of mysteries that go around as rumors inside of Kamome Academy, and they are called the "Seven Mysteries." Out of the Seven Mysteries within Kamamome Academy, Hanako, who is called "Hanako-san of the Toilet," Hanako is treated as the de facto boss of the others because he governs over all of them.

As such, all of the mysteries treat him with respect, and some even fear him. Either way, it is proven that Hanako is quite the formidable enemy throughout the series.

6 He Has A Yorishiro That Is A Mystery

Every school mystery has something called a "yorishiro" which is labeled as the most precious possession from that mystery's life. For instance, Yako's yorishiro was a pair of scissors that Misaki used to cut her hair when she was a small girl.

Tsuchigomori stated that each yorishiro chosen has the strongest feelings connected to it, but Hanako's has not been stated. While some speculate it may be a person and not a thing for Hanako, this is left a mystery.

5 His Death Is A Mystery

While Hanako may look like a teenager in his early teens, he has been dead for a while, haunting Kamome Academy's toilet. When Tsuchigomori was introduced as a character within the series, they showed a glimpse of Hanako's life when he was a human.

Although we do not know how he died at such an early age, it is implied he took his own life from the bullying he received in middle school. It is a wonder if his past is ever going to be revealed.

4 He Wanted To Become An Astronaut

As stated before, Tsuchigomori brought a lot to the table when it came to casting light on Hanako's dark past when he was a human. It appeared he was bullied, but he did have a dream.

This was to become an astronaut and go to the moon, although sadly, this never came true. He was also interested in astronomy and even gave Tsuchigomori a rock he stated came from the moon which became Tsuchigomori's yorishiro.

3 He Has A Younger Twin Brother

Hanako's younger twin brother's name is Tsukasa. When the early chapters of the manga as well as the anime sometimes showed Hanako doing odd things, this happened to not be Hanako, but Tsukasa.

They appear exactly the same, although Tsukasa has a bit darker shade of hair and his eyes pupils are always constricted. Also, while Hanako makes deals with the living, Tsukasa makes deals with the dead. He has an antagonistic role in the series.

2 His Real Name Isn't Hanako

While it may not be odd at first, "Hanako-san" is the name of one of the Seven Mysteries, so shouldn't Hanako have another name? This fact is brought to light by the introduction of Tsukasa, Hanako's twin brother whose full name is Tsukasa Yugi.

Hanako's real name is Amane Yugi, which Tsukasa calls him whenever they meet. While he is called Hanako by Nene and Kou, Tsukasa is the only who calls him by his real name.

1 He Is Chronologically 50+ Years Old

It is unknown exactly when Hanako died, but by the period we see in flashbacks, he probably attended Kamome Academy fifty years ago. He wore the same outfit albeit without the jacket or the hat, which shows he used to attend. Thinking about it this way, Hanako probably has a lot of knowledge over haunting the girl's bathroom for that long as well as loneliness.
