Tweephone makes tweeting from a rotary phone a reality
Have you ever wanted to dial your tweet to Twitter via a rotary phone? Of course you have.
Now you can, with a new science project called Tweephone.
Just when you thought rotary phones weren’t cool anymore, Twitter brings them into the next generation. Unteleported explains the amazing feat :
Rotary phones use the same dial tone technology as cell phones, so a rotary phone hooked up to a computer can send the same data. Tweephone displays tweets as you type them in. Rather, spin them in, using a rotary phone.
Here’s a video showing Tweephone in its full glory:
I find the blend of old media and new media fascinating, and I’d probably use this in my house. Judging by the demo though, it might take 20 or 30 minutes to get a tweet out.
Rumour suggests Apple will unveil thinner, better battery life iPad in March 2012
Apple may be set to release an updated thinner version of the iPad 2 in March 2012, according to a report from 9to5mac .
Citing a DigiTimes article , it suggests that a thinner designed iPad with improved battery life will arrive in March but, like the recent iPhone 4S launch, the rumoured new device is likely to be an updated iPad 2 given the small changes.
Fans awaiting the iPad 3 will need to wait a little longer although Digitimes suggests that the device could arrive as early as “the third quarter of 2012”.
Would Apple really release an updated iPad 2 and new iPad 3 within months of each other? It seems unlikely that both rumours are correct given Apple’s track record of introducing new products although Digitimes is known to be a reliable source.
Nonetheless, DigiTimes also suggests that Apple will produce 2 million devices before the end of the year, that’s double the prediction that Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeff Fidacaro made in October.
New devices could include HD screens after Apple was reported to be testing the technology from both Samsung and LG with a view to including it in future iPad releases.
Reports in August suggests that Apple was testing its prototype iPad 3 in October but no leaks and more details were forthcoming of the rumoured device last month.
Nokia Confirms N8 ‘Power Management’ Issue
Yesterday we reported that Nokia’s flagship device, the N8, might have some serious hardware problems. Today, Nokia has responded in a blog post to those reports and with a little video from Nokia’s head of sales and marketing, Niklas Savander.
Here is what the blog states:
And their clarification:
Savander says that this ‘power management issue’ is a limited problem and they have taken “immediate action across the product line”. He says that the company has “traced it down to the way we assemble the engines.”.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t offer any fixes other than to say that if the issue happens to your device, call Nokia Care and that it’s covered by the standard warranty.
