SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Phone 7 now available
Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 has been out in the United States for just over a day now but that doesn’t mean it’s short on quality software. In fact, Sling Media just announced that their very popular mobile software, SlingPlayer Mobile , is now available for Windows Phone 7 users this very minute.
That’s right, it’s already out folks.
If you head to the Windows Marketplace on your new Windows Phone 7 handset, you can find the software awaiting you for the cool sum of $29.99. Or you can just head here on your PC or laptop. It’s as easy as that. Here’s what Sling Media’s vice president of Products, John M. Paul had to say about the release:
Remember though, you must have a Slingbox already. If you have one, you’ll be able to stream live content from your TV right to your device and you can do so over 3G or Wi-Fi.
Well, if you even can connect to Wi-Fi.
Early Windows Phone 7 adopters, you should feel pretty lucky right now because Android users had to wait quite awhile to get their hands on SlingPlayer Mobile.
So, if you’ve got a SlingBox and you’re rocking Windows Phone 7, go ahead and get your fix.
Latest Kindle is Amazon’s best selling product of all time
If you need any more proof that e-books are set to be a massive deal in 2011, here it is. Amazon has announced that the third-generation Kindle is its worldwide bestselling product of all time . That beats the previous record holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The retailer says that on its peak trading day of the year, Nov. 29, customers ordered more than 13.7 million items across all its product categories – a record-breaking 158 items per second.
It seems that consumers aren’t buying Kindles instead of iPads, in fact the two appear to complement each other in terms of sales. Amazon’s founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos says in today’s announcement, “We’re seeing that many of the people who are buying Kindles also own an LCD tablet. Customers report using their LCD tablets for games, movies, and web browsing and their Kindles for reading sessions.”
Amazon also says that on Christmas Day, more people turned on new Kindles for the first time, downloaded more Kindle Buy Once, Read Everywhere apps, and purchased more Kindle books than on any other day in history.
Launched on 27 August this year, the Kindle 3 has been heavily promoted by Amazon through Web and TV ads that often directly compare it favourably against the iPad as a reading device in direct sunlight. Still, Amazon’s policy of making the Kindle format readable across a wide range of devices via apps means that even if you do choose a tablet device or mobile phone for your e-reading, Amazon’s positioned nicely to profit from it.
Rumor: Dell Streak to be succeeded by dual-core Opus One?
According to Dell-centric blog Streak Smart , Dell is currently developing a successor to its Streak tablet-cum-smartphone device codenamed Opus One.
The news comes out of a private presentation held by Dell, where attendees were introduced to a new range of colours for the pre-existing Dell Streak but also a new 5-inch tablet device currently referred to as the Opus One, featuring a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 1280 x 800 resolution display with a tentative release in May 2011.
At the moment, news of the Dell Opus One is pure speculation. Dell might well have introduced concepts in these private meetings that may never see the light of day.
Also worth noting is that back in September, Dell CEO Michael Dell took to the stage at Oracle’s OpenWorld conference in San Francisco and showed the attendees a new 7-inch Android-powered prototype tablet . Either Dell is looking to release a whole new range of tablet devices, including the Opus One, or this device will never see the light of day.
